RecycleStream Website

By Brand Shepherd | Published July 21st, 2011

RecycleStream.com has a pretty basic premise: It matches your waste with those who want it (paraphrase of tag line). Digging a hole in your yard for a new pool? Log on to find the property owner who needs fill. Municipality manager in need of land owners who want your fill from projects? Find them here. The concept is brilliant because it falls right in line with the times we live in: We no longer want to waste anything! Brand Shepherd journeyed through the creation process on this project with Snow Commerce’s client to mainly focus on the user interface design (UI) so as to make it as intuitive as possible.  The website project began as DumpsitesNow.com, but later in the process a new name – RecycleStream.com – was chosen because it more accurately described the myriad services that the business model can accommodate.

Below are 2 images: What the site looks like now, and also the first concept we designed for DumpSitesNow.com, a concept that everyone really liked, though it was heavily evolved into what we now see at RecycleStream’s website.

Dept 229

Dept229.com

The story behind this project is as interesting as the project itself…at least to us. We wrote about the backstory, the process, and our Big Picture approach to e-commerce web sites in general on our blog. Here’s a link to go read about it.

As for Dept229.com as a part of our web design portfolio, we really encourage you go to take a look via the link above. It really is a beautiful site; a near-perfect balance of solid design, thorough project management, and a team of developers (coders) who made no sacrifices in executing our vision for how the site looks and feels. As a design source for web sites, especially e-commerce site, it cannot be stressed enough how satisfying it is to work on a project like this.

The site is built on the Magento platform, a solid e-commerce platform that also incorporates add-ons such as blogging, forums, mobile viewing, and other plugins that are all supported by a healthy world-wide community of designers and developers. More information is on our blog post. For now, we encourage you to head on over to Dept229.com, and buy one of their great deals, and note the awesome web design experience while you’re there.

Half Day Cafe

The Half Day Cafe is a wonderful place to eat (as we do often!), and they asked Brand Shepherd to refresh their existing web site. This was a case where the overall concept of the site was intact, but it had become stale over the years – neglected. We analyzed the site’s functionality and aesthetic details, and made a set of suggestions to enhance a viewer’s experience. The end result is a site that Half Day Cafe ownership is very happy with.
