Happy Home Incense Packaging and Branding

By Brand Shepherd | Published January 2nd, 2012

Happy Home Incense™ is a brand of hand-crafted incense made by Oxford, Ohio-based Wild Berry Incense, and sold in Walmart nationwide. For this iteration of the Happy Home Incense branding we scrapped the previous branding which was more illustration-based, and opted to create a beautiful product photo to be used on all of the packages. We worked with one of Cincinnati’s best product photographers to capture the brand essence and mood of the product, then set out to create the different SKUs to be sold at Walmart. We collaborated with Wild Berry, as well as with input from Walmart, to create a really nice set of package designs that were then printed, packed, and began selling nationwide.

Wild Berry Incense Pre-Packs

By Brand Shepherd | Published January 1st, 2012

Wild Berry Incense is the maker of premium hand-crafted incense, and is based out of Oxford, Ohio. Their incense sticks are normally sold in their trademark jars on a tiered POP, with the sticks exposed to air so that where ever they are sold customers know that Wild Berry Incense is for sale – it’s branding through the nose! However in some cases Wild Berry Incense is sold in pre-packaged sleeves of 15 sticks. After having crafted the Walmart® exclusive Happy Home Incense packaging for Wild Berry, Brand Shepherd was hired to create a line of packaging that could have a cozy look and feel while leaving room for versioning. Brand Shepherd set out to design a master SKU that met these criteria, and then we art directed a photo shoot for the face panel hero shot. Once everything came together we then worked on the 24 different fragrances/SKUs that made up the pre-pack line from Wild Berry. The end result is a family of products that look incredible on shelf. Each variation stays true to the family brand aesthetic, but also has its own area atop each sleeve to instantly communicate to the customer what the fragrance is. The folks at Wild Berry Incense couldn’t happier with the results, and neither could we.

Honey For Goodness Sake™ Consumer Packaging

By Brand Shepherd | Published November 3rd, 2011

Honey For Goodness Sake™ brand honey is grown by an apiarist from Cleveland, Ohio. Sold primarily at farmer’s markets, and small retail venues, Honey For Goodness Sake™ asked us to create a their brand identity, and then create the consumer packaging for the full line of products. We started with an on-target brand identity that keeps the simplicity of the context these products are sold, but gives the brand a solid visual identity. We then explored and created a series of consistent consumer packaging solutions that are low cost to reproduce, and allow space on some products for sellers to write in the specific type of honey being sold. In this example, we have used Clover Honey. The line of products includes two types of all natural salve in tins, all natural lip balm, a squeeze bottle of honey, and a large jar of honey. For everything we designed labels that can be printed digitally for low-run quantities, or for high volume as Honey For Goodness Sake™ grows. The lineup is a very appealing group of all natural products made by and with honey.

Dinovite Dailies Packaging

Dinovite Dailies are a new way to get consumer to use the Dinovite Liquid Canine Formula product in a way that is more convenient. Brand Shepherd has designed labels for rigid packaging for their powder formula, as well as branding for the liquid product sold in tube, but this project was the most comprehensive so far. We created packaging all of the dog-size based single serving form-seal packets. We then created 4 different size cartons, 1 size carton for small, medium, large, and giant dog breeds. The creative was process was fluid as always with Dinovite. We have worked with them for such a long time now that we feel like we’re really tapped into what Dinovite is to the customers and ownership. This was a very fun project to work on. All those dog photos! Good thing Brand Shepherd has our own office dog – Jake, the border collie.

ScoreTower Product Packaging

The ScoreTower™ and ScoreTower Combo™ are score boards people can use for all kinds of outdoor games. The makers of these products, Backyard Scoreboards, know their customers and the context well, so each scoreboard also has 2 drink holders included in the design. Our job was to take existing packaging – a 2 color self-shipping carton – and make it more attractive for on-shelf use. We started by giving some shine and depth to the brand identity. We then crafted several options for a branded packaging approach, and arrived at what you see below. For the normal ScoreTower we used red, and for the Combo we used blue. We also hired a Brand Shepherd valued photographer in Palm Springs, CA to shoot the action photos in the dead of winter in order to meet production schedules and yet have a summer setting.
